Bologna – Stile Liberty architecture

This post continues my obsession with Stile Liberty, the Italian form of Art Nouveau. I’ve ordered the buildings into three groups; the city centre, along the ring road Viale Carducci and in Quartiere Saragozza, particularly along Via Rodolfo Audinot. Most of the buildings and streets are marked on my map. I’ve posted more information where I have it, apologies for the blanks.

There’s not a lot of Stile Liberty in the centre due to all the Medieval and Rennaisance buildings getting in the way, but there are a couple dotted around…

Viale Carducci was created by the Regulatory Plan of 1889, which oversaw the demolition of the fourteenth-century walls that encircled the centre and replaced them with a ring road, which allowed these residences to be built at the turn of the century.

This building is hard to see as it’s set back from the road (hence the blurry photo) which is a shame as it looks like a beauty.

Quartiere Saragozza is a district just to the west of the historic centre, bordered by Viale Pepoli, Via Costa, Via Zaragoza and Via Audinot. There are several Stile Liberty villas in the neighbourhood, most of which are the work of Paolo Sironi an architect entrepreneur who also built Casa Girasoli above.
